Fraud and Abuse Statement

Continental General Insurance Company aggressively investigates fraud, and cooperates with law enforcement agencies to prosecute those whom defraud the nation's health care system and insurance companies. The total estimated cost of insurance fraud (including life and health insurance) is between $85 billion and $120 billion a year. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, fraud adds $200 to $300 annually to insurance premiums for the average household. Continental General Insurance Company is dedicated to preventing and detecting fraud.

Here are some ways you can help combat fraud:

  • Review your bill for accuracy. Did you actually receive the treatment for which you and your insurance carrier were billed? Are the dates of service the dates you were actually seen?
  • Never sign blank insurance claim forms.
  • Ask you medical providers what they charge for the procedure to be performed.
  • Never pay your health premiums in cash.
  • Check with your state insurance department to make sure the health insurance company is licensed to do business in your state.
